The rising profile of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, has received more validations, following fresh approval of full accreditation of the institution’s Accounting programme by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The six-year old University was adjudged the 9th best private university and 17th best among Nigeria’s Federal, State and Private varsities by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in its recent ranking of universities.
The NUC also ranked Chrisland University among 25 varsities that secured 100% full accreditation of all academic programmes offered in their respective institution’s curriculum.
On Monday, on the University’s campus in Abeokuta, cheering news filtered out that the Institution excelled in the accreditation of the Department of Accounting, with ICAN lauding the University for its efforts in enhancing quality education in Nigeria.
According to a letter forwarded by the Accounting body, titled: “Re: Accreditation Visitation For Accounting Programme” and signed by the Office of the Registrar, the accreditation was based on adequate teaching facilities and qualified lecturers, who are mostly Fellows of ICAN in the University.
Elated by this development, the University’s Head of Accounting Department, Dr Adegboyega Afolabi, disclosed that “the accreditation now makes it possible for graduates of Accounting from the institution to sit for the last two instead of the three stages of the ICAN Professional Examination.”

Dr Afolabi stressed that the implication of the new accreditation status included running parallel Bachelors Degree alongside ICAN programme such that a graduate could have both B.Sc and ICAN certification on graduation.
It may be recalled that six Chrisland Accounting students, two of whom are in 200 level, sat for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria examination that took place in April, 2021 and recorded impressive feats and outstanding performances in the examination.
Also commenting, the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Chinedum Peace Babalola congratulated staff members across board for making meaningful contributions that have impacted immensely the overall growth and development of Chrisland University.
Prof Babalola, in a similar vein also appreciated the unquantifiable efforts of the Founder and Chancellor of the University, High Chief(Dr) Mrs Winifred Awosika for not sparing anything in her tireless drive and funding of the institution.
