The Magistrate Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has dismissed a bail application for Mr. Aye O.S. Egberi, the social media coordinator for the Bayelsa State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Magistrate Stanley Ekeru had on the 10th of September ,2025 in suit number, YMCA/747c/2025, ordered the remand of Mr. Aye O.S Egberi for 30 days at the Okaka Medium Correctional facility.
Egberi stands accused of cyberstalking under applicable laws, with allegations centered on a social media publication that purportedly implicated Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, and State Police Commissioner, Francis Idu, alongside senior officers of the Nigerian Police Zone 16 Command, in the July abduction of Hon. Justice Ebiyerim Umokoro, a State High Court judge.
The accused was apprehended a fortnight ago by operatives of Operation Puff Adder, under the command of CSP Chris Uwaogbo, acting on directives from Commissioner Idu.
Counsel for the defense, Chief Benjamin S. Ogbara, moved for bail and sought to set aside the remand order, citing Egberi’s medical condition.

A report tendered by Dr. Nathan Abule of the Federal Medical Centre documented the accused’s chronic bronchial asthma and peptic ulcer disease, necessitating ongoing medical management. The defense further requested bail pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The prosecution, led by Japhet O. Japhet, Esq., opposed the application, submitting that the remand order should subsist until its expiration to allow for completion of the prosecution’s preparations.
The prosecution argued that Egberi’s publication constituted a deliberate attempt to undermine the efforts of Operation Puff Adder, the state police, and the Bayelsa State Government in securing the release of Justice Umokoro.
In his ruling, Magistrate Ekeru dismissed the bail application, directing the defense to seek redress at the Federal High Court for any further applications concerning bail or related orders.
