The Progressive Governors Forum is facing a leadership crisis after rival factions emerged within the body of All Progressives Congress governors, raising stakes ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to an AriseNews report Friday night, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, chairman of the forum, insists he remains in charge alongside his deputy, Kaduna Governor Uba Sani. A separate bloc has reportedly aligned behind Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The split comes amid growing political realignments within the ruling party, with governors positioned as key power brokers for the next election cycle.
Details of the disagreement remain unclear, but party sources say tensions have been building over internal leadership control and strategic positioning.
Governors loyal to Uzodimma met Friday at the Imo State Government House in Abuja and passed a vote of confidence in him and Sani. The meeting, which lasted over three hours, focused on the upcoming APC primaries and coordination between governors, party leadership, and committees to ensure a smooth exercise.
Uzodimma said the meeting was necessary with primaries approaching, and stressed the need for unity to deliver a hitch-free process. He also cited President Bola Tinubu’s submission of his reelection form in January 2027 as reason for governors to work collaboratively to secure a second term.
“The unity of the Party is not negotiable at the moment,” Sani said, adding that APC governors are “more united now than ever” in backing Tinubu.
Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris dismissed social media reports of a change in PGF leadership, calling them false.

“That is not correct. You can see our Chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma and his Vice, Governor Uba Sani are all here. They are our leaders. We don’t have any problems,” Idris said. He also moved a vote of confidence in the pair.
Governors from Imo, Ondo, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Kano, Yobe, Edo, Zamfara, Benue, Kebbi, Borno, and Jigawa attended the meeting.
Neither faction has released a detailed statement explaining the cause of the division as of press time.
