The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended the proposed Oba-Adesida Flyover Project in Akure, describing criticisms against the initiative as misplaced and urging stakeholders to support efforts aimed at improving infrastructure and economic development in the state.
In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, the APC expressed concern over recent public comments by a party chieftain, Chief (Dr.) Alexander Oluremi Ajipe, who questioned the necessity of the proposed flyover project.
The party said while it respects the right of citizens and stakeholders to express opinions on government policies, it was surprised that a senior APC member chose to publicly criticize a major government infrastructure project instead of utilizing internal party mechanisms for consultation and engagement.
According to the APC, the party maintains established structures, including stakeholders’ meetings, leadership consultations and party forums, through which concerns and policy suggestions can be discussed with government officials and party leaders.
The statement rejected suggestions that the state must choose between infrastructure development and economic growth, describing such an argument as a false dichotomy.
The APC explained that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s approval of the 2.38-kilometre flyover project along Oba-Adesida Road, stretching from Adegbola Junction to St. Matthias/NNPC Filling Station in Alagbaka, was based on professional traffic assessments which identified the Alagbaka-FUTA corridor as one of the most congested routes in Akure.
According to the party, traffic experts recommended the construction of a flyover as the most effective long-term solution to recurring traffic congestion along the corridor.
The party also referenced the recently commissioned flyover at the Onyearugbulem-Shagari-Irese axis, describing it as a strategic intervention designed to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and stimulate economic activities within the state capital.
The APC noted that infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges and transportation networks remain critical drivers of economic development, arguing that efficient transportation systems attract investment, facilitate business activities and improve productivity.
It further maintained that the Aiyedatiwa administration has continued to invest in other critical sectors, including road construction, water infrastructure, urban renewal and various development initiatives across the state.

The party therefore called on members of the APC and other stakeholders to support government policies aimed at transforming Akure into a modern state capital and enhancing Ondo State’s competitiveness among Nigeria’s leading states.
While acknowledging the importance of constructive criticism in a democratic setting, the APC urged stakeholders to ensure that such criticisms are fact-based, informed by expert recommendations and channeled through appropriate party structures.
The party concluded that the proposed Oba-Adesida Flyover should be viewed as a strategic investment intended to improve mobility, safety, productivity and economic prosperity in Ondo State.
