Former deputy National Publicity Secretary in the dissolved National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Yekini Nabena, has urged support for the party’s newly-constituted Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, headed by Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe.
A News Agency if Nigeria (NAN) report quoted Nabena to have, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, asked aggrieved APC members to drop court cases against the party to ensure peace and unity.
Nabena said he was giving the charge in line with Buhari’s admonition during the 8th resumed meeting of the APC NEC, held at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.
He said that “perceived fear of a witch-hunt is misplaced. The APC Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, headed by the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has been given a mandate by the NEC to reform our party and ensure unity across party ranks.
“There might be contentions, which is not unusual in a political organisation, but the task before us now is to support the caretaker committee to settle our differences and bring the much needed reconciliation and peace to our party at this point.
“The leader of our party, President Buhari, has called on party members to withdraw cases against the party in court.”
He said it was heartwarming that many members had begun adhering to the president’s call.
“Therefore, I urge other members and groups to do same for the growth and unity of our party.
“Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states are forthcoming. We must now come together as a united political party to consolidate and win the elections,,” Nabena said.
