Residents of Anambra have congratulated Prof. Chukwuma Soludo on his successful inauguration for a second term as governor of the state urging him to surpass his performance.

The residents, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Tuesday expressed confidence that Soludo would surpass his first term performance in the new administration.

They however, accepted his apology for the pains his development activities brought to the people but urged him to work out a compensation plan.

Chief Joe-martin Uzodike, an elder statesman said Soludo’s first four years were eventful.

“I am happy that he has acknowledged and apologised to the affected people but I think he should have a compensation plan for them.

“He has marshalled out his plans for the second term and I hope he is going to accomplish them,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Peter Onuorah, a former majority leader, Anambra House of Assembly lauded Soludo for what he described as top-flight performance in his first term.

Onuorah called in Soludo to open up Ayamelum, an agrarian area by the completion of Awka -Awba-Ofemili -Emelum road, part of which he began construction in his first term.

He said the governor should work towards revamping the Ifite Ogwari Pumping Station built to power the Anambra-Imo River Basin.

“If rebuilt, the Ogwari pumping station will enable farmers in Umumbo, Omor Anaku, and Umulum communities to have two rice cultivation seasons a year,” he said.

Also speaking, Paul Onuachalla, a resident, said Soludo did not only lay the foundation for a new Anambra but started to build on that foundation.

Onuachalla said Soludo was able to deliver massive projects an impressive speed and expressed confidence that he would achieve more within a shorter period.

“The governor has his job well cut out for him in his first term, he did impressively well.

“We accept his apology but the truth is that development comes with social cost,” he said.
