Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, will receive $100,000 for winning the women’s 100m hurdles gold at the World Athletics Championship 2022.

Amusan made history on Sunday after winning 100 metres hurdles final at the World Championships held in Eugene, United States, becoming the first athlete from Nigeria to win gold at such competition.

Amusan first ran a blistering 12:12 seconds to shatter the world record of 12:20 seconds set by Kendra Harrison of U. S. in the semi-finals.

She then followed up with a (+2.5) wind-assisted 12.06s in the final.

However, a cheque displayed by Amusan revealed that she would earn $100,000 for setting a world record in the championship.

Speaking on the feat, the athlete said: “The goal was to come out and to win this gold.

“I believe in my abilities, but I was not expecting a world record at these championships. You know, the goal is always just to execute well and get the win. So the world record is a bonus.”
