Minister of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume, has dismissed a social media report that he (Akume) had threatened to quit the government of Muhammadu Buhari, if he did not get his endorsement to be All Progressives Congress, APC’s, natiobsl chairman, describing it as a publication of “political mischief undertakers with spurious claims.”

In a statement, entitled: RE:”AKUME THREATENS TO QUIT APC, in which the sponsors of the report alleged that Akume made a charge of ethno religious nepotism against Buhari administration, and signed by Dr Aondona Mkor, Special Adviser to the Minister on Media and Public Affairs, the former Benue state governor and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the report “is nothing but a shrewd package of lies and falsehood targeted as causing confusion and distraction.”

The statement said: “The attention of the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator (Dr) George Akume, and the indefatigable leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue State, to an online publication cowardly and mischievously written, and illicitly sponsored by some faceless political opponents of Senator George Akume, the great and proud father and pillar of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“In the said publication, the political mischief undertakers wrote and with very spurious claims thus: ‘Akume Threatens To Quit APC,citing ethno-religious nepotism against him by the Buhari administration.’

“While we wish to submit first, that the above evil clause is nothing but a shrewd package of lies and falsehood targeted at causing confusion and distraction within the huge profile of the Honourable Minister’s political support base, goodwill and prayers as he aspires to take the lead of the APC as its national chairman in the forthcoming national convention.

“Above that, we wish to state without contradictions that:

“Senator (Dr) George Akume, FNIM, has worked hard to earn his impeccable political reputation which is hugely anchored on proven integrity, public trust, patriotic commitment to the service of the nation and promotion of unity, peace and stability in the nation. As one of the great contemporary nationalists and politicians, Senator George Akume’s national acceptability, goodwill and detribalized character has earned him the opportunities to serve as Chairman, Northern Governor’s Forum, Senate Minority Leader, three- term Senator of the Federal Republic and a two-term Governor of Benue State, and presently a Minister of the Federal Republic.

“In all of his national service to this great nation, Senator George Akume, FNIM, has consistently stood for one Nigeria, using his harmonious connects across all ethnic nationalities in building bridges of peace, unity and stability in the country.

“Senator (Dr) George Akume, FNIM, is one of the proud fathers of the biggest ruling political party in Africa, the APC, and he incontrovertibly remains committed to maintaining this great political status, confidence and trust.

“Senator George Akume despises the PDP and its grossly ruptured and perforated umbrella in Nigeria!

“Senator George Akume, FNIM, remains grateful to His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President and Commander-in Chief for finding him as a worthy Nigerian to serve in the unique capacity of a minister in the federal executive council of this great nation. The Honourable Minister pledges his unwavering,
unalloyed and total loyalty to the President and Commander-in Chief,His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, and with absolute commitment to service to the nation under the present administration.

“The Honourable Minister wishes to once again express his sincere desire, readiness and commitment in serving the All Progressives Congress, APC as its national chairman, if elected in the forthcoming national convention of the party. The Honourable Minister enjoins all the great supporters of the APC to pray for the success of the national convention.
