The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has replied the National Assembly, denying his statement that the lawmakers got 60 per cent of the contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The Speaker, who announced the receipt of Akpabio’s response, said the minister claimed to have referred to old contracts awarded by the NDDC, which had not been paid for and some of which were parts of the constituency projects of the lawmakers.

Gbajabiamila said the Minister’s response would be referred to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges to examine its merits.

Akpabio’s response came after the speaker had earlier directed the Clerk to the House to engage the services of legal counsel and initiate a criminal complaint of perjury and explore the possibility of a civil defamation suit against the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio.
