• Harps on infrastructure development, security in NASS
Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, commended the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) for its efforts in enhancing staff members’ morale and promoting capacity building within the National Assembly.
However, he urged the commission to focus on addressing crucial issues pertaining to security, infrastructure decay, and cleanliness on the premises of the National Assembly complex, as the 10th NASS commenced its legislative duties.
Senator Akpabio expressed concerns over the safety of lawmakers within the complex, as unauthorized individuals had infiltrated the premises, leading to incidents where valuables, such as phones, had been stolen from the offices of honorable members and senators.
He emphasized the need for enhanced security measures to safeguard both the legislators and the institution itself.
While acknowledging the NASC’s allocation of significant resources for staff members’ allowances and emoluments, Senator Akpabio underscored the importance of paying attention to the overall environment and cleanliness of the National Assembly complex.
Renovation efforts were noted, but he stressed the significance of maintaining a hygienic and secure working environment.
During a meeting with the management of the NASC in Abuja, Senator Akpabio conveyed that the National Assembly symbolizes democracy, and the 10th Senate is committed to achieving significant legislative milestones.
He lauded the steps taken by the commission to boost staff morale, but he also emphasized the imperative of addressing the environmental and security concerns.
Chairman of NASC, Engr. Ahmed Amshi, congratulated the Senate President and the Deputy Senate President, recognizing their experiences in public office.
He urged lawmakers to submit the list of their legislative aides for documentation, with a goal to resolve this matter by September.
