• Pledges continuous support for Nigerian Army’s constitutional duties
In a remarkable demonstration of community support, Barr. Benjamin Israel Eke, the Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, has pledged unwavering support to the Nigerian Army (NA) in fulfilling its constitutional duties.
The commitment was articulated during an event held at the Model Primary Health Care Centre in Ahoada.
The occasion saw Brigadier General Edet Effiong, the Commander of 6 Division Garrison and Commander Sector 3, Joint Task Force, South South, Operations DELTA SAFE, donate essential healthcare equipment, drugs, and food items to the sick, needy, and widows in Ahoada.


Chief Barr. Eke, in his address, acknowledged the long-standing cooperation between the NA and the people of Ahoada East LGA.
He emphasized the importance of the NA’s supportive role in fostering an environment conducive to the free flow of crucial information, essential for curbing nefarious activities within the communities.
Expressing gratitude for the NA’s benevolence, Chief Barr. Eke underscored the community’s commitment to supporting the NA in its efforts to eliminate undesirable elements, particularly during the festive season.
He extended appreciation for the NA’s timely assistance, acknowledging the relief it provided to the council amid the holiday season.

In a parallel development, Honorable Juliana Okorie, the Vice Chairman of Oyigbo LGA, echoed Chief Barr. Eke’s sentiments.
She commended the NA’s compassionate initiatives during an event at Community Secondary School, Umuakpahu-Oyigbo.
Brigadier General Effiong donated customized educational materials and food items to students and widows in the LGA.
Hon. Juliana, surprised by the NA’s benevolence, dispelled preconceived notions about the military organization.
She commended the NA’s affectionate outreach to civilians, which defied her previous perception of them as a purely military force.
Brigadier General Effiong, in explaining the motive behind the donations, highlighted their alignment with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s Command Philosophy, emphasizing sound administration rooted in welfare.
He reiterated that the contributions were part of the Civil Military Cooperation activities and were integral to the annual Exercise STILL WATERS III, aimed at ensuring a secure yuletide season in the state.
During visits to various schools, including Senoir and Junior Community Secondary School in Ogbogbo Town and Government Girls’ Secondary School in Ukumgba-Ama Ogoloma, Brigadier General Effiong advised students to maintain good behavior and avoid negative influences.
The Commander also visited Daughters of Charity of St Vincent De Paul, De Marillac Centre (Home for Street Children) in Mile II Diobu, Port Harcourt, where he donated sewing machines, food items, and cleaning agents.
Reverend Sister Theresa Antigha expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the institution, emphasizing the positive impact of such gestures on the community.
The donations, including stethoscopes, visual aid apparatus, adult weighing scales, essential drugs, and food items, were distributed to beneficiaries, who expressed heartfelt thanks to the GOC and the entire NA for their generosity, noting that such acts were unprecedented in their communities.
