The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted the suspension placed on Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, effectively reinstating her eligibility to participate in guild affairs and film productions.
Abubakar had been placed on an indefinite suspension in October 2024 over allegations bordering on defamation involving fellow actors and other prominent Nigerians.
Following the allegations, a panel set up by the guild carried out a two-year investigation, which found her culpable and resulted in her exclusion from all AGN activities.
The decision to lift the suspension was announced on Thursday by the outgoing AGN National President, Emeka Rollas, during the inauguration of the guild’s new National Executive Council (NEC) at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja.
The ceremony attracted actors from different parts of the country, filmmakers, and key stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
Rollas, who concluded his second and final term in December 2025, formally handed over leadership to Abubakar Yakubu at the event. While addressing attendees, he explained why the guild chose to reinstate the actress.
“There were persons that we have suspended according to the AGN law, and because I’m leaving office, I don’t want to leave them suspended,” Rollas said.
He further stated, “Halima Abubakar took AGN to court claiming a frivolous amount of money, but we had our investigations, and we suspended her from all acting and all AGN activities.

“However, since acting remains her main source of livelihood, it would be wicked for us to leave her like that.
“Therefore today, by the powers imposed on me by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension.”
Rollas also disclosed that the suspensions placed on Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem, and Jeff Okwute of the Enugu State chapter had equally been lifted.
Earlier in the programme, the Chairman of the Inauguration Organising Committee, Chuks Chyke, commended Rollas for his tenure, applauding the stability, unity, and inclusiveness he brought to the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
