● Share limelight with very senior lawyers – Odinkalu, Falana, Okutepa, Adegboruwa, others
In its bid to celebrate the good work of lawyers who have committed themselves to advocacy for change from the courtrooms to commentaries in the public space, an online newspaper- “TheNigeriaLawyer” – has listed eighteen lawyers, including four Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), for recognition.
A public interest lawyer, Vincent Adodo and human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, were significantly listed for their contributions to advocacy for good governance and human rights protection.
Both of them are particularly young at the bar, at least, far from being Senior Advocates of Nigeria, but have shared in the same recognition and limelight with very senior lawyers and SANs.
Deji Adeyanju, who was called to the bar only this year, was particularly phenomenally remarkable. His moves have been breezy and profound, defining a trajectory to a future of robust and impactful practice as a litigation lawyer.
The news platform stated concerning Adodo in the following words: “Adodo highlighted Nigeria’s deteriorating road infrastructure, filing lawsuits and pushing for accountability from Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the Ministry of Works. He has emphasized the critical role that lawyers can play in holding public officials accountable for infrastructure development and maintenance.”
Read what the platform wrote about Deji Adeyanju: “Called to the Bar in 2024, Adeyanju wasted no time in making his mark on the legal landscape. His outspoken stance against growing impunity in Nigeria and his pledge to take on pro bono cases to ensure access to justice for the oppressed have positioned him as a promising advocate for the marginalised, and the vulnerable.”
THE CONCLAVE quoted “TheNigeriaLawyer” to have stated in the preamble to its narrative announcing the recognition thus: “In 2024, several prominent lawyers played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s legal landscape through advocacy, public commentary, and legal battles. These individuals leveraged their expertise to address pressing legal, social and political issues, earning recognition for their contributions from TheNigeriaLawyer.”
Others listed for their various contributions by the publication included Professor Chidi Odinkalu, Jibrin Samuel Okutepa (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN), Muiz Banire (SAN), Sam Amadi, PhD, Sylvester Udemezue, John Aikpokpo-Martins, Maxwell Opara, Adebayo Akinlade, Festus Ogun, Tunde Ahmed Adejumo, Chukwudi Nneke, Arome Abu, and Inibehe Effiong.
THE CONCLAVE reports “TheNigeriaLawyer’ to have congratulated the advocates on their recognition, stating that “these legal professionals demonstrated unwavering dedication to justice, the rule of law, and institutional integrity, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s legal community in 2024. It is not easy to advocate for the rule of law or call for its respect; doing so often means losing clients, business opportunities, and support from those aligned with the government. Many lawyers face threats, police harassment, and personal risks for their stance. However, these challenges should not deter others from speaking up. To those whose names are not listed here, your efforts are equally valuable- keep pushing for justice and accountability. This is TheNigeriaLawyer’s elevation of the good work they are doing.”
