Former special adviser to a former Governor of Osun State and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Yomi Obaditan, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke almost defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) before reconsidering the move at the last moment.

Speaking in an interview with News Central TV, Obaditan disclosed information he received from former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola about the pressure campaign targeting Adeleke.

“The former governor of the state, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, told us that the governor was under pressure. And what pressure was it? ‘Join us, come to our party, we will do this for you,” he stated.

The PDP chieftain described how intense lobbying efforts nearly succeeded in persuading the governor to switch parties.

“And then, you know, at a point in time, the pressure was so high that Governor Adeleke almost moved from his party, PDP, to join the APC, but he studied the ground and realised it’s like jumping from the rock into the ditch, and so he had to take it easy,” Obaditan explained.

He said that the governor ultimately decided against defection after assessing the political climate within the APC.

“Since the APC members regarded him as an unwelcome visitor, he had to pause,” he said.
