The Group Managing Director of Zedcrest Group, Adedayo Amzat, has unveiled a memoir exploring class inequality, resilience and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

A statement issued by Zedcrest Group on Thursday in Lagos said the memoir, Building in Chaos: From Sawdust to Green Rugs, was unveiled during an event organised to mark Amzat’s 40th birthday.

The statement said the book goes beyond the story of corporate success to examine how childhood experiences of scarcity shaped ambition, identity and leadership.

According to the statement, the memoir recounts Amzat’s upbringing in modest circumstances characterised by sawdust stoves, face-me-I-face-you compounds, rationed meals and crowded classrooms.

It said a defining moment occurred when Amzat, at age 10, encountered a different social reality.

“Dayo glimpsed another Nigeria: green rugs, video games, full plates and children who could take comfort for granted,” the statement said.

The memoir poses a central question: “How does a child cross from one world into another and what should he do once he gets there?”

The book traces Amzat’s journey through his education, the National Youth Service Corps, his career at Access Bank and the eventual founding of Zedcrest and Zedvance Finance Ltd.

It also highlights the regulatory challenges, business setbacks, investment risks and personal sacrifices that shaped his career in the financial sector.

The statement described the memoir as both a personal account and a reflection on Nigeria’s social and economic contradictions.

“It is a personal story but also a quiet argument that no country can afford to waste children simply because they were born too far from the bright lights,” it said.

Guests at the event, including family members, business leaders, media personalities and industry executives, described the memoir as timely, noting that its themes of perseverance, recovery and institution-building would resonate with young Nigerians navigating economic uncertainty and social pressure.
