The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has confirmed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as running mate to presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 election.
The announcement came Monday, ending weeks of speculation over the VP slot.
–Primary results–
Amaechi contested the ADC presidential primary alongside Atiku and former FSB International Bank MD Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
The electoral committee declared Atiku winner with 1,846,370 votes. Amaechi polled 504,117 votes, Hayatu-Deen 177,120 votes.
Both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen protested the process before votes were counted. Amaechi had also said in TV interviews he was not in the race to be anyone’s running mate.
–Party consultations–
ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said the decision followed “extensive consultations” with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones.
Amaechi, ex-Transportation Minister, now heads Atiku’s campaign organisation as DG, ADC had earlier announced.
