A stakeholder in Abia, Barrister Chuks Akamadu, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to move speedily to nip the impending danger in the bud, by declaring Dr Alex Otti winner as the winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Abia State – having satisfied all requirements prescribed by statute.

Barrister Akamadu said the patience of Abians had been stretched beyond limits and their irreducible minimum expectation at this point was that INEC should arise now and discharge its constitutional mandate, “lest Abia go up in flames on account of daylight electoral fraud.”

“The events of the past few days in Abia State have made God’s Own State stick out like a sore thumb. No thanks to a certain clan of political gladiators who have demonstrated readiness to set their state ablaze, if need be, in order to cling on to power.

“The Abia electorate spoke loud and clear on Saturday, March 11, 2023 with their votes, and indisputably, Dr. Akex Otti and his Labour Party (LP) emerged victorious.

“But rather than defer to the sanctity of the ballot box, the wheelers and dealers in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) most regrettably conspired to bake incredible figures in Obingwa Local Government Area and have same served on Abia people in a most contemptible manner, with a view to robbing Dr. Otti and his party of victory.

“This brazen affront on Abia people and their democratic right has distressed and strained the entire country, brought the nation to the doorstep of odium and left Abia in particular susceptible to a conflagration.

“I consider this unfortunate development both tragic and downright condemnable.

“I therefore wish to call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to move speedily to nip the impending danger in the bud, by declaring Dr. Alex Otti winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Abia State – having satisfied all requirements prescribed by statute.

“The patience of Abians has been stretched beyond limits and their irreducible minimum expectation at this point is that INEC should arise now and discharge its constitutional mandate, lest Abia go up in flames on account of daylight electoral fraud.

“The time to act is NOW – for the last time I checked, a stitch in time still saves nine,” the statement read.
