The new Governing Board of International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) has voted a Nigerian, Mr Henry Asor Nkang into its chair, 2022 to 2024.
The voting took place at the inaugural meeting of the Board in New York.
Asor is in Charge of Development Assistance Database (DAD) in Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning
The new Board also voted for Dr. Thea Schepers of Open Data Netherlands as vice Chair.
In a terse reaction to an inquiry by THE CONCLAVE, Asor said: “it can only be God’s Grace that qualifies a person, no matter the circumstances.”
IATI is a global initiative hosted by a consortium comprising UNDP, UNOPS and Development Initiative (DI – UK), to improve the transparency of development and humanitarian resources and their results to address poverty and crises globally.
The Governing Board takes a leadership role in overseeing the implementation of IATI’s work. The Board puts recommendations on key budget and strategic issues to the members’ assembly for final approval.
The Board is made up of seven members representing providers of development cooperation, partner countries and civil society, non-governmental and private sector organisations. The Board also includes one technical representative. The members of the Board appoint IATI’s Chair and Vice Chairs, who chair both the Governing Board and the Members’ Assembly.
