Jema’a Local Government Council in Kaduna State, has donated seven electricity transformers and dozens of solar powered street lights to communities in the locality.
The benefitting communities include Ngaskiya, Ungwan Bala, Ungwan Galadima, Godogodo, Keyya, Ungwan Musa and Atukutozu.
Speaking during the distribution of the transformers in Kafanchan on Wednesday, Mr Peter Tanko, the Executive Chairman of the council, said the gesture was a practical demonstration of his administration’s resolve to address developmental challenges facing communities in the area.
“As a local government council, we remain fully committed to identifying and responding to the developmental needs of our people.
“Many communities still face developmental challenges, and I want to assure you that this administration will continue to work to address such challenges,” he said.
He noted that electricity remained a critical driver of development as it supports small businesses, enhances education and improves health care delivery.
“It is our belief that providing these transformers will significantly ease the power challenges experienced in many of our communities,” he said.
He expressed appreciation to Gov. Uba Sani for his unwavering support and commitment to grassroots development.
“The support and collaboration we continue to receive from the state government has made initiatives such as this possible,” he said.
In his remarks, Saidu Umaru, the district head of Zipak, thanked the council chairman for the transformers, saying that the gesture will stimulate local economic activities.
Umaru enjoined the benefitting communities to take full ownership of the transformers by ensuring that they were properly protected and used for the intended purpose.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the distribution, the village head of Atukutozu, Bako Iliya, expressed immense joy at the prospect of his community receiving electricity for the first time in his lifetime.
“My community has never had electricity since I came into this world 54 years ago, but I’m so excited that our story is going to change starting today.

“I must thank the council chairman and indeed our governor for turning our darkness to light; we assure them that we will return the favour,” he said.
