There was pomp and circumstance on Friday in the Uneme-Uzanu community of Etsako East Local Government Area in Edo State to herald a new monarch, Alhaji Momodu Muhammadu Osiregbhemhe Adamu, who was formally installed as the Oliola of Uneme-Uzanu.
The installation ceremony was conducted in accordance with the community’s long-established customs, traditions, and succession practices.
Alhaji Momodu Muhammadu Osiregbhemhe Adamu is a seasoned professional and respected community figure, with a background in Quantity Surveying and extensive experience in business and community leadership.
His educational background and professional experience have equipped him with the skills and leadership acumen to drive development and progress in the community.
The installation ceremony was marked by traditional rites and ceremonies, including the beating of the traditional drum, which signifies the authenticity of the coronation and the legitimacy of the throne.
The drum was beaten in the prescribed rhythms of “Ukpagba” and “Igbaa”, confirming that all customary rites were duly observed.
The installation of Alhaji Momodu Muhammadu Osiregbhemhe Adamu was preceded by the removal of the former Oliola, Benjamin Ikani, who was dethroned on September 21, 2024, following allegations of various criminal and abominable acts.
The Osigwe elders and people formally wrote and confirmed that the Odah section should present a new Oliola, in keeping with the rotational and customary arrangements of the community.
The coronation was marked by widespread jubilation across Uneme-Uzanu, as men, women, youths, and elders openly expressed joy and relief.
The celebrations reflected the general acceptance and support of the new Oliola by the people, as well as renewed hope for peace, stability, unity, and progressive leadership within the community.
The installation of Alhaji Momodu Muhammadu Osiregbhemhe Adamu represents a return to traditional order, respect for ancestral authority, and a collective commitment by the people of Uneme-Uzanu to move forward in harmony and development.
With his wealth of experience and leadership acumen, the new Oliola is poised to drive progress and development in the community.
