Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters stormed Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, on Monday morning, abducting 36 students and killing a teacher who resisted the attack.
The assault occurred about 8:30am in Lassa village, Askira Uba Local Government Area. According to local sources, the insurgents opened fire during the raid. A teacher who refused to be taken away was shot dead on the spot, while another staff member sustained gunshot injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital.

A verified register of the missing students, obtained by _Daily Trust_ and authenticated by Hon. Jagila Jabula, Councillor representing Lassa Ward, puts the number of abducted students at 36.
The breakdown shows *25 female and 11 male students*. By class, *18 are in SS1, 17 in SS2, and 1 in SS3*.
The list was compiled by school authorities with the assistance of parents of the missing students.
“The list is authentic. It reflects all the students we cannot account for since the attack on Monday,” Jabula told _Daily Trust_.

The Lassa abduction comes barely six weeks after a similar attack in the area. On May 15, 42 pupils were abducted from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School, located about 20km from Lassa.
The back-to-back raids have heightened fears among parents and school authorities in Southern Borno, where insurgents have increasingly targeted rural schools and communities.

Security agencies in the state are yet to issue an official statement on the latest incident. Parents of the abducted students have called on the federal and Borno State governments to intensify rescue efforts.
