The Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Right Honourable Abbas Tajudeen, has led a delegation from the House to Kaduna.
The visit of the delegation happened on Wednesday, March 14, 2024.
The purpose of the visit was to extend condolences to the government and people of the state following the tragic abduction of schoolchildren in the Kuriga community on Thursday, March 7th.
In light of the distressing incident where bandits forcibly abducted over 280 schoolchildren from their educational premises, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, who represents the Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, convened a meeting at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
He met with Governor Uba Sani and conveyed heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the House.
Expressing profound concerns over the resurgence of kidnappings in the state, particularly the abduction of innocent schoolchildren, Speaker Abbas said, “The House received the news with profound dismay.”
He pledged the House’s unwavering commitment to collaborate with the Kaduna State Government and other stakeholders to devise effective measures to curb insecurity not only within the state but also nationwide.
Acknowledging the ongoing efforts to secure the safe return of the abducted children, the Speaker remarked: “We believed we had witnessed the end of kidnappings in Kaduna State, only for it to resurface in a more devastating manner.”
He affirmed readiness to work closely with the state government to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Speaker Abbas commended Governor Sani and his administration for the proactive measures implemented to address the resurgence of insecurity.
He also lauded the combined efforts of the federal and state governments aimed at promptly rescuing the abducted children and facilitating their safe reunification with their families.
Highlighting the prioritization of national security by the 10th House since its inauguration in June 2023, Speaker Abbas underscored its commitment to addressing security challenges as outlined in the House Legislative Agenda.
In response, Governor Uba Sani expressed gratitude to Speaker Abbas and the delegation for their solidarity with the people of Kaduna State.
He urged the House to revisit the issue of state police, emphasizing the paramount importance of safeguarding citizens’ lives and property.
Accompanying Speaker Abbas on the visit were distinguished members of the House, including House Leader, Honourable (Professor) Julius Ihonvbere, Caucus Leaders from both the North and the South, and representatives from various regional caucuses.
Additionally, members of the Kaduna State Caucus in the House, led by Caucus Leader, Honourable Amos Magaji Gwamna, were present as part of the delegation.
