The battle for the ADC’s 2027 presidential ticket is officially on, with Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatudeen all throwing their hats in the ring.

Atiku and Amaechi submitted their nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday at the party’s Abuja secretariat. Economist and banker Hayatudeen got there first, filing his on Wednesday.

Atiku framed the move as part of a national push to “restore prosperity and better days,” calling on Nigerians across regions and faiths to back the ADC’s renewal agenda. Amaechi said he’s in the race to “salvage” Nigeria and bring back dignity, unity, peace, and prosperity.

The contest sets up a high-stakes showdown within the opposition platform. The ADC has set its primary dates:

2. *Governorship primaries* – May 22, 2026
3. *Presidential primary* – May 25, 2026

With three heavyweights now in the mix, expect the jostling for delegates and alliances to ramp up fast as 2027 approaches.
