A former Delta House of Assembly speaker, Mr Martin Okonta, says Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori was not opposed in the APC 2027 governorship primaries in Delta because of his performance and acceptance by the people.
The former speaker staid that the governor emerged as a consensus candidate because party members trusted him and his capacity to deliver.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls the governor was returned as the APC sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election in a direct primary election on Thursday that was conducted by the party across the 25 local government areas of the state, securing a total of 345,375 votes in the primaries.
Okonta in an interview with NAN on Saturday, in Asaba, praised the governor’s leadership style and performance in office.
“I wish to celebrate the governor for who he is and for his performance in his duties.
“He has been well appreciated by all residents because his impact is being felt across the state,” he said.

Okonta, a chieftain of APC, described the governor as an inclusive leader, who accommodated everyone in governance without sentiments or bias.
“The governor is not sentimental and he is not tribal. He allows everybody to be part of his government.
“My prayer is that God will continue to bless and protect him for the tasks ahead,” Okonta said.
Also speaking, a former Delta commissioner for Lands and Survey Mr Raymos Guanah, described Oborevwori’s emergence as well deserved.
“Concerning the declaration of Oborevwori as unopposed candidate of the APC in Delta, it is my view that it is well deserved,” Guanah said.
He attributed the governor’s victory to the infrastructural projects executed across different sectors of the state’s economy.
“The governor has undertaken massive infrastructural developments across the state and in all sectors of the economy,” he said.
“Sheriff is the man to beat in the Delta 2027 gubernatorial elections,” Guanah added.
