Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele’s rumoured presidential ambition is already getting flak, side swipes and frontal attacks from opposition quarters.

Regardless, The Green Alliance, TGA, that unfolded Emefiele’s presidential project, whether or not they got the nod of the Central banker, has justified its advocacy to have him join the presidential race.

TGA converged on Lagos on Saturday, February 12 pulling together hundreds of his political supporters who called on him to enter the 2023 presidential race.

TGA said that there was no better person in the political arena better placed to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari than Emefiele.

Emefiele is from Agbor in Delta State.

His supporters said he would also be the answer to the cry of marginalization by the Igbo in the country.

Emefiele was not present at the ceremony but the supporters who cut across various segments of society and the country said he would be persuaded to join in the race for the nation’s topmost job.

Emefiele’s supporters turned out in T-Shirts on which was emblazoned the picture of the CBN governor in front and what may be his nom-de-plume: “MEFFY 2023.”

The convener of TAG, Wale Fapohunda, (no connection with the Ekiti State Attorney General) in his address largely directed to the national media organisations that were well represented, said that the call on Emefiele to run arose from what he described as his hands-on approach in managing the Central Bank.

According to him it was remarkable that even if he were appointed by a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP administration, that the succeeding All Progressives Congress, APC government not only found him fit enough but also went on to make him the first CBN governor in the Fourth Republic to win a second term.

However, before his CBN advent, Fapohunda also observed Emefiele’s successes at Zenith Bank, noting that the bank under him achieved a hundred billion naira after tax profit under his management in 2012.

But these purported achievements amounted to nothing in the estimation of opposition elements who reduced Emefiele’s presidency to a project by some friends who had fed fat on the nation’s commonwealth availed them by Emefiele.

They insinuated that the multi-billion naira project that is being tended to by a media entrepreneur, who is playing a lead role in The 2022 Committee, was nothing but another political scam.

“It is an attempt to expand the rape of Central Bank of Nigeria by a committee of friends to a rape of the entire national economy by the same cabal,” one of the opposition elements said.

The opposition elements have released a series of cartoons and graffiti to illustrate what an Emefiele presidency would exemplify and have also mocked him using skimitty rides.

The sources of these cartoons, graffitis, drawings and skimmity rides which have gone viral on some social media platforms between Saturday, February 12 and Sunday, February 13, could not be ascertained and/or verified as of press time.
