Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum on Monday called on political office holders to address poverty issues in their constituencies.
The governor, made this call during the empowerment of women and children in Borno Central by the Senator representing the constituency, Kashim Shettima.
He said: “I must admit many political office holders have been alive to the yearnings of the poor in their constituencies, but I would assist that they continue to do this.
“For those that are yet to join the train, I would ask that they emulate Senator Kashim Shettima by giving back to the people.”
Zulum said the empowerment materials provided by the Senator representing Borno Central, Kashim Shettima, remained the largest since he assumed office in 2019.
About 1,000 women and youths across Borno Central were empowered with start-up kits and N25,000 cash after an extensive skill acquisition programme which was facilitated by Shettima.
Zulum said: “It is my singular honour and privilege to witness the presentation of kits and cash to 1,000 beneficiaries sponsored by Sen. Kashim Shettima.
“This is so far the largest empowerment programme benefited by the people of Borno State. This empowerment, if well utilized, will, insha Allah, provide livelihood to our internally displaced persons in the state,” Zulum said.
The Governor urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the materials provided to them by the Senator representing Borno Central.
Speaking earlier, Senator Kashim Shetima expressed appreciation to the Governor for attending the occasion.
Other speakers included the wife of Borno State Governor, Dr Falmata Zulum and the state caretaker party Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori.
