The longest-serving Zamfara monarch, the Emir of Kwatarkwashi in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Ahmad Umar, is dead.
He died on Thursday 9th June, 2022, at the age of 93.
In a press statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, by Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, Umar, who was his eldest son, the emir died in his palace after a prolonged illness.
He has been buried according to Islamic injunctions.
Recall that Alhaji Ahmad Umar Mai Kwatarwashi was crowned by Sultan Abubakar III on March 17, 1961, and he had been on the throne for 61 years.
In March 2021, he celebrated his 60th year on the throne in a grand style which was graced by prominent traditional leaders in the northern part of Nigeria including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
