The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kosofe Local Government Branch, has called for stronger collaboration between youths and the police to enhance community security.
NYCN Coordinator, Mr Bolanke Lambo, made the call on Tuesday, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the Political Intelligence Summit held at the Igbogbo Police Command in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The summit with the theme: “Political Intelligence Summit: Strengthening Youth Engagement, Civic Responsibility and Community Security”.
It was organised by the Lagos State Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement in collaboration with the Lagos State Bureau of Public Defender (BPD).
It brought together youths, security agencies and other stakeholders to discuss civic responsibility, political awareness and community security.
Lambo said that the collaboration between the youth and police would also promote responsible civic engagement.
The coordinator, who led a delegation from NYCN Kosofe branch to the event, described the summit as timely, as it had equipped participants with knowledge on responsible citizenship, conflict management, community policing and political intelligence.
“The programme has further strengthened our understanding of the importance of constructive engagement between young people and security agencies.
“When youths are adequately informed and actively involved in governance and community affairs, they become partners in promoting peace, security and sustainable development,” he said.
Lambo urged youths to embrace civic responsibility and contribute meaningfully to nation-building through lawful and positive engagement.

He also commended the organisers for creating a platform that encouraged dialogue between young people and law enforcement agencies.
Lambo lauded Mr Abubakar Asoro, the Vice Chairman of NYCN, Lagos East Senatorial District, for his commitment to youth development and inclusive participation across the district.
“We appreciate the efforts of Mr Asoro in ensuring that youths across Lagos East continue to benefit from programmes that build leadership capacity and encourage active citizenship,” he said.
Lambo stressed that sustained collaboration among government institutions, security agencies and youth organisations remained essential to building a safer, more united and progressive society.
