A violent incident has occurred at a mosque in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, resulting in the death of a worshipper.
The deceased, identified as Hameed Najeem, allegedly attempted to attack the Imam during the early morning prayer service.
According to witnesses, Najeem confronted the Imam during the sermon, forcing the cleric to flee the mosque.
The situation escalated, and Najeem was restrained by other worshippers, who beat him until he fell into a gutter in front of the mosque.

A witness who participated in the dawn prayer described the incident, saying that Najeem suddenly stood up, removed the microphone stand, and attempted to hit the Imam.
The witness added that Najeem was suspected of being drunk or angered by the sermon.

The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation had been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police have deployed officers in the area to maintain law and order.

The incident caused tension in the area, with some traders shutting their shops and others remaining open.
The Jummah prayer was not held, and calm was later restored after police officers were deployed in the scene.

The police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the incident.
