Nigerian singer and half brother of the Psquare duo, Peter Okoye, has said Nigerians now know the forces trying to force the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) out of office.
He spoke against the backdrop of desperate pushes by a vast majority of members of the political class for extension of the deadline for the deposit of the old naira notes.
Significantly, Okoye’s intervention came on the heels of the criricisms of the new naira policy of the apex bank by the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
Tinubu, during his campaign in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, had berated the policy, describing it as a ploy to sabotage his prrsidential ambition.
Okoye, in a post on Twitter, stated that it was now clear to Nigerians why some people are after Emefiele by demanding his arrest for his alleged involvement in terrorism.
The CBN governor had insisted that there would be no extension of the January 31 deadline.
But the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, a crony of Tinubu, had threatened to issue a warrant for the arrest of the CBN governor for ignoring summons by the House on the issue.
“Nigerians now know who is after Emefiele,” Okoye declared in a magisterial fashion.
