The roof of the palace of the Olomuooke of Omuooke, Oba V. A. Otitoju, who is the Chairman of Majority Obas in Ekiti land (MOBEL), was blown off by wind storm.
Ace broadcaster, Evangelist Bayo Famoroti, who made this known to newsmen, said the incident happened during a downpour accompanied by thunderstorm about 6pm on March 6th, 2024.
According to him, the Oba was in the sitting room during the thunderstorm when he noticed that one of the windows was rattled by the wind and he got up from his seat to close it.
He said that as the Olomuooke was shutting the window, the ceiling crashed on the spot where he was sitting and unknown to him, the roof of the palace had been blown off.
Evang. Famoroti disclosed that it was later that the royal father discovered that the roof of the palace had fallen on two bungalows on the palace ground, causing extensive damage to them.
He said the whole palace was flooded and that concerted effort was made to salvage the property therein, pointing out that it would take a lot of money to repair the damage caused by the thunderstorm.
In his reaction, Comr. Taye Olorunsogbon, Chairman, Omuooke Development Association (ODA), congratulated Olomuooke on escaping death during the incident and prayed that God would continue to protect and uphold him.
He however called on the council and state government to come to the aid of the Oba in effecting the necessary repairs of the extensive damage caused by the thunderstorm.
