As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attempts to find a solution to the bungled three-ad-hoc congress in Ekiti State, a group, PDP Partners for Progress (PDP Partners), has appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike not to indulge former Governor Ayodele Fayose any further.
The group said it was worried that the failure of the PDP to manage the prospects of winning Ekiti State with a sellable candidate and united front could negatively affect the party’s chances in Osun State and the 2023 general elections.
The body, which bears PDP Partners for short, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Mohammed Giwa, urged the Rivers governor and PDP leadership to reflect on the past and future of the party in handling the Ekiti matter.
“We wish to draw the attention of Gov Wike to the allegation in the public domain that Fayose is double-dealing, including having a secret pact with the APC in Ekiti State to produce a weak candidate for the PDP, and he has yet to deny it.
“It could be that Fayose has again promised to deliver the Ekiti PDP Delegates to Gov Wike’s choice during the Presidential primaries later in the year, but the Rivers governor will do well to remember how Fayose triple-dealed with Tambuwal, Atiku and Dankwanbo.
“Gov. Wike can also remember how Fayose attempted to truncate the PDP National Convention using his cronies and how he emboldened Uche Secondus to dare the party against wise counsel.
“It was not hidden to Gov Wike the desperation shown by Fayose and the kind of treachery he perpetuated against Gov Seyi Makinde over the South-West zonal executives and the extent of his political debauchery.
“Unknown to Gov Wike, he maybe indulging Fayose at the peril of the PDP, and thereby endangering the chances of winning the Presidential election.
“If we win in Ekiti, it will strengthen our bid to win in Osun, and these two elections could help to fire the imagination of PDP members toward 2023, but can the party decipher what Fayose is doing to undermine PDP’s prospects?
“The aggrieved aspirants cannot be lying against Fayose as several independent sources have confirmed the three-ad-hoc congress to be a charade.
“Fayose is not an aspirant; he has completed his two terms, so why is the party, including its leadership and governors, giving him this lattitude to destroy the PDP from with?“ the statement added.
