In what was easily interpreted as a monumental decimation of the structures of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Saturday received into the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, scores of APC defectors led by Amaechi’s loyalist and member of the APC Board of Trustees, Chief Sam Sam Jaja.

Port Harcourt demonstrably stood still as Wike lived up to his promise of destroying all the structures of the APC in Rivers State.

Significant members and leaders of Amaechi in the APC as well as leaders of other political parties moved into the PDP in Port Harcourt.

Those who defected along with Sam Sam Jaja, who was national vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party at a point in time, were Chief George Tolofari, Mr Princewill Dike, Hon. Fred Igwe, Hon. George B. Nwidam, Hon. Kennedy Ebeku, Ph.D., and thousands of their supporters.

According to one of the APC defectors, the laudable achievement of Gov Wike was one of the reasons why they were dumping their party.

He said that teaming up with the governor would create better opportunities for more development for the state and the people.

The reception for the defectors, tagged “11th-hour homecoming”, was held at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt.

A huge crowd turned out to witness the historic event.
