Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has explained why his administration sacked two traditional rulers in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, saying the decision became necessary to restore peace and stabilize the affected communities.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhlor, the governor announced the removal of the Olososo of Ososo, Bamidele Obaitan, and the Zaiki of Ikpeshii/Egbegere Clans, Luckman Odamah III, after a thorough review of the disputes and tensions surrounding the traditional leadership structures in the two communities.
According to the governor, the state government acted “in the interest of peace and stability” after assessing the “circumstances surrounding ongoing disputes relating to the traditional leadership of the communities.”
To ensure continuity and prevent a vacuum, Okpebholo approved the appointment of Mr. Nicholas Odamah as Regent of the Ikpeshi/Egbegere Clan, directing him to oversee the affairs of the clan “in a custodial capacity” and to fully cooperate with government directives.
For Ososo, the governor ordered the elders of the four quarters (Unukhus), the Council of Chiefs, and the Elders of Ososo to immediately begin consultations and submit a consensus candidate for appointment to the vacant stool of the headship of Ososo.
The submission, he said, must reflect “the customs, rotation principles, and collective will of the Ososo people.”

Both removed traditional rulers were further directed to hand over all government properties and instruments of office in their possession to the Chairman of the Akoko-Edo Local Government Council without delay.
The state government also urged residents of Ososo, Ikpeshi, Egbegere, and the entire Akoko-Edo LGA to remain calm, assuring them that all security agencies have been notified to maintain peace, prevent any breakdown of law and order, and safeguard lives and property.
