Afrobeats star Davido has ruled out apologising to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over his social media post sharing the governor’s alleged WAEC result, insisting he did nothing wrong by informing Edo people about their governor’s academic records.

The singer spoke in an exclusive interview with News Central TV on Tuesday in Osun State.

—“I Was Just Telling People The Results Their Governor Has”—

“I’m not going to apologise. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just telling people of the state the results their governor has,” Davido said.

The controversy started after Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during APC campaign activities ahead of the August 16 governorship election in Osun.

The Edo governor had mocked Adeleke over dancing at public events while campaigning for APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.

“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo said.

In response, Davido posted Okpebholo’s alleged WASSCE result on his Instagram story.

—“You Left Your State To Come Attack My Uncle”—

Davido accused Okpebholo of interfering in Osun politics instead of focusing on Edo.

“Yes, and you came, you left your state, you came to another state. You came in and then started talking that my uncle is a dancer; he is not serious,” he said.

“The road to your Government House is not done. My uncle is not serious. First of all, you were not even elected; you were selected.”

He further questioned the governor’s mandate: “You don’t know what it means to win an election. That’s why you could go there and talk.”

The singer also criticised Okpebholo for attacking a sitting governor in his own state, saying, “I feel so bad for his kids. Because you see what my dad is doing. You’re abusing a sitting governor in his own state.”

Davido mocked the Edo governor over reports that he stayed in a hotel during the Osun visit, adding, “A whole governor staying in a hotel, walking around like…”

—Political Warning Ahead Of 2027—

The singer warned that Osun would respond when Edo holds its next governorship election.

“In fact, finish your three years, we’ll visit you when it’s time for you to get re-elected,” Davido said.
