The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained the reason for summoning the Edo State Accountant General Julius O. Anelu, alongside three senior officials for questioning.
The officials, Martina Osasu-Uwoghiren, Adaghe Anthony, and Okhomina Godwin, are expected to appear at the EFCC’s office at 1 Court Road, off Reservation Road, GRA, Benin City, on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 10 a.m.
According to ACE I Aisha Abubakar, Head of Investigation, the EFCC’s invitation followed two prior requests, dated September 17, 2022, and September 29, 2023, which were not honoured.
This latest inquiry is made under Sections 38(1) and (2) of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2004, which empower the agency to investigate matters relating to economic governance.
The officials are expected to provide clarifications on matters related to state financial management, amid growing public interest in ensuring economic accountability at all governmental levels.
The invitation emphasizes the EFCC’s commitment to addressing and preventing any potential economic malpractices, aiming to safeguard the financial interests of Edo State and strengthen trust in public governance.
