Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, in Northern Nigeria, had a shocker for those thinking he would negotiate with bandits if his back was pushed to the wall, saying he would not even if his son was kidnapped.

el-Rufai said, instead of dignifying kidnappers with negotiation and payment of ransom, he would rather pray that he (his son) makes heaven.

Read him: “I mean it and I will say it again here. Even if my son is kidnapped, I will rather pray for him to make heaven instead, because I won’t pay any ransom.”

He spoke during a radio chat on Friday, stating that he had warned his family members to be careful to avoid being kidnapped.

He said that that they (his family members) were aware of hiscstand on the matter, that he would never pay a ransom for their freedom if they got into the hands of bandits.

el-Rufai’s statement came on the heels of the recent kidnapping of students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Ten of the students have so far regained freedom while 29 others remain in captivity of their abductors.

Responding to his administration’s effort to secure the release of the kidnapped students, el-Rufai assured the people that the government would keep exploring other ways to get them back to their families but stressed that the government was “absolutely not paying ransom.”
