▪︎ Urges them to clear remnants of bandits
Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has commended the Nigerian Army for the ongoing operations in Sokoto State and Northwest, putting the bandits on a rampage.
He said the recent operations had brought relative peace in some trouble areas in the State.
He made the commendation during the West African Social Activities popularly called WASA Organised by Headquarters of 8 Division of the Nigerian Army on Saturday 29 January 2022.
The Governor was represented by the Secretary to the Sokoto State government, Mallam Sa’idu Umar.
He said the Nigerian Army was one of the respected institutions that still maintained its customs and traditions despite their commitment to the fight against various criminality in the country.
He commended their effort and doggedness of troops in dealing with bandits, as seen in recent times.
He, therefore, urged troops to continue to destroy bandits’ enclaves to bring lasting peace to the State.
The government of Sokoto State will continue to support the Army by providing the necessary logistics to enhance their operations, he added.
For those that paid the supreme sacrifices in the line of duty, he prayed that the Almighty God would grant them eternal rest.
Earlier in his remarks, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Uwem Bassey expressed satisfaction with the conduct of troops during the various operations he led in the jungle.
He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the fight against banditry
General Bassey reassured the people of the Northwest zone that with the renewed effort and strategy put in place by the military, peace would soon return to the area.
He thanked the state government for its continued support to the military on the ongoing operations of HADARIN DAJI.
He, therefore, called for help from the people of Sokoto State to provide the military with credible intelligence that would assist the military in ending banditry.
He thanked all the guests for gracing the WASA despite their busy schedules.
Highlights of the events included Cultural dance by various ethnic groups in the barracks, match pass by Nigerian, Army Soldiers Wives Association, beating of the retreat, tug of war, presentation of souvenirs to dignitaries, campfire, among others.
