Monday morning turned to metal and chaos on the Warri–Itakpe line.

At least four coaches left the tracks and capsized, the Nigerian Railway Corporation confirmed.

Passengers who boarded for a routine trip were instead thrown into emergency mode as the train derailed.

NRC Managing Director Dr Kayode Opeifa broke the news in an official statement: “Emergency response teams have been deployed to the scene to manage the situation and assist passengers.”

For now, details are thin. No official word yet on casualties or the cause.

Opeifa said the corporation is “closely monitoring developments” and will release a comprehensive update once investigators establish what went wrong on the track.

His plea to the public: Stay calm. Ignore rumours. Wait for updates from official NRC channels only.

The Warri–Itakpe line has become a critical rail corridor for Delta and Kogi. Today, it became a reminder of how fast routine travel can turn into crisis.
