Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated holders Banyana Banyana of South Africa 2-1 to book a spot in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie scored for Nigeria, while South Africa got their goal through Linda Motlhalo.

Nigeria started on the strong foot with Chiwendu Ihezuo, and Esther Okoronkwo coming close in the opening 12 minutes.

Ihezuo was put through on goal by a brilliant Ashleigh Plumptre’s pass on 11 minutes but she was denied by Andile Dlamini.

Dlamini also stopped Okoronkwo’s effort one minute later.

Ajibade put Nigeria ahead from the penalty spot on dot of 45 minutes.

Linda Motlhalo equalised for South Africa from another penalty on the hour mark.

The Super Falcons, however, won the contest from a Michelle Alozie’s long range effort in stoppage time.

Justine Madugu’s side will face the winner of the other semi-final between hosts Atlas Lionesses of Morocco and Black Queens of Ghana in the final. [Prompt News]
