Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, has shut down academic activities following the directives given by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Mohammed Bello, that all schools in Abuja should be closed because of security concerns.
The abrupt closure of the Roman Catholic owned university, located in Bwari Local Government Council of the FCT followed security reports indicating that Boko Haram terrorists could attack and abduct students of the school.
This is coming barely few days after troops attached to the presidential guards brigade foiled an attempted attack by Boko Haram terrorists at the Nigerian Law School, sited some few kilometres away from Veritas University.
The Public Relations Officer of Veritas University, Evelyn Obekpa, announced the management’s decision to close down the institution, in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.
The statement said: “The Management of Veritas University wishes to notify the general public that the University has successfully completed the 2021/2022 academic session.
“However, due to the current security tension and the directives of the Minister of the FCT for the closure of schools in Abuja, examinations for our 100 level students shall be conducted at a date to be announced later.
“New academic session which was initially scheduled to commence in September, had been put on hold following security threat to the institution.”
