The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, has disclosed that the United States government is exerting “intimidating and deceptive pressure” on countries to modify their stance on the blockade against Cuba.
The minister made the statement at a press conference, where he shared irrefutable evidence of the US campaign to coerce countries into changing their votes on the blockade.
Rodríguez Parrilla said that the US State Department had distributed a document to several countries, urging them to vote against a resolution calling for an end to the blockade.
The document contained “mendacious and slanderous” claims about Cuba, including accusations of human rights abuses and threats to international peace and security.
The minister described the document as “shamefully mendacious and slanderous” and accused the US of trying to divert attention from the main issue of the blockade.

Rodríguez Parrilla emphasised that Cuba is willing to engage in a debate on the issue, citing data and evidence to prove that the blockade is the main cause of the country’s economic problems.
He also accused the US of hypocrisy, given its own record of human rights abuses and violations of international law.
The minister expressed confidence that the UN General Assembly will overwhelmingly approve the resolution, calling for an end to the blockade on October 28 and 29. He said that the international community will not be swayed by US pressure and will vote in favour of truth and justice.
