A Frontier Airlines flight from San Juan to Chicago made an emergency diversion to Miami on Wednesday after a passenger allegedly tried to open an emergency exit door while the aircraft was airborne.
According to The Guardian UK, the incident occurred mid-flight on June 3, 2026, when the passenger became disruptive and attempted to force the exit door open. The action triggered panic among passengers and crew.
Flight attendants, with help from other passengers, quickly intervened and restrained the man to prevent him from accessing the door.
The pilots declared an emergency and diverted to Miami International Airport as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely and the passenger was handed over to authorities on arrival.
No injuries were recorded during the incident. After the situation was resolved, the flight continued to Chicago.
Aviation experts say attempting to open an aircraft door at cruising altitude is nearly impossible due to cabin pressure, but any interference with emergency exits is treated as a seriouos security threat.
