Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor resigned his membership of the party along with 17 members of the State House of Assembly. APC has five members and APGA has two, making a total 24 member-House of Assembly.
APC now has 22 members following the defection of the 17 PDP members. If the remaining two APGA members follow suit suo motu, the APC members will be 24 in all, a clean sweep of sorts.
The governor’s spokesperson, Daniel Alabara, confirmed the resignation on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
Diri will be pitching his tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The confirmation has ended months of speculations over the sensitive issue of the governor’s defection to the ruling APC.
