Armed robbers, said to number about forty, on Wednesday evening, attacked First Bank in Ikire in Irewole Local Government and Access bank in Apomu in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State

As of the time of filing this report, some witnesses informed our Correspondent that one policeman attached to the First Bank in Ikire was killed by the robbers during the process.

Three others were confirmed killed in subsequent reports on attacks that extended to a police station

According to the witness who spoke with our Correspondent, “Ikire First Bank was their first target, after attacking Ìkirè First Bank they then went to Apomu access bank.

“O.P.C men at Apomu made it difficult for the robbers to gain access to the Access Bank there,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to pieces of information, which were subsequently made available, the attacks were carried out about 6pm after the banks had closed.

The sporadic shooting by the robbers reportedly left two civilians dead.

The robbers were reported to have attacked the banks in Apomu, headquarters of Isokan Local Government Area, and Ikire, headquarters of Irewole Local Government Area and a police station, where four policemen were killed.

They were said to have attacked Apomu before moving to Ikire.

The Commissioner, Osun State Police Command, Olawale Olokode, confirmed the development to The Eagle Online on Wednesday night.

According to Olokode, the robbers shot dead four policemen and two civilians.

The Spokesperson of the Command, SP Yemisi Opalola, said Olokode had since visited the scenes of the crime.

Opalola said: “The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olawale Olokode, is now at the scene of the crime.

“The robbers attacked two banks and they killed some people.

“They attacked a police station during the operation.”
