The authorities of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, in Kwara State have expelled a 100-level student, Olanrewaju AbdulKadir, for allegedly demanding ransom from the parents of his missing colleague.
This was confirmed in the university’s weekly bulletin, signed by the director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.
The expelled student, with matriculation number 22/52HL004 was of the Department of Information Technology and Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences of the university.
In the same vein, the university has rusticated a 400-level student, Segun Micheal Oyewole, for allegedly beating a fellow female student.
Oyewole, who was rusticated for one academic session is of the Department of Counsellor Education, Faculty of Education of the university.
In another development, the University also announced the promotion of 16 of its senior academics to the rank of Professor.
Their elevation was consequent upon the recommendations of the University Appointments and Promotion Committee.
The recommendations were approved by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, who recognised their exceptional achievements in teaching, research, and community service.
A statement from the Office of the Registrar said that the 16 distinguished scholars were found to have excelled in the realms of teaching, research and community service.
The breakdown of the beneficiaries of the promotion exercise shows that three of the new Professors are produced by the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and they are Prof. John Kola Olarinoye, Prof. James Ayodele Ogunmodede, and Prof. Simeon Kayode Olubiyi.
The Faculty of Education produced Prof. Abdulrahman Suyuti Omosidi, who teaches at the Department of Educational Management.
Two lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology were also elevated to the rank of Professor and are Prof. Kamorudeen Olaniyi Yusuf and Prof. Habeeb Adewale Ajimotokan.
