The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) says it is stepping up efforts to boost its global profile through digital innovation and strategic partnerships.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, made this known during a four-day council retreat, according to a statement issued on Wednesday in Port Harcourt by the university’s spokesperson, Dr Sam Kpenu.
Ohuabunwa said that UNIPORT was taken deliberate steps to improve its standing among universities worldwide, noting that digital tools play a key role in achieving that goal.
“Digital transformation is no longer optional. It is critical to improving teaching, research, and governance, as well as positioning the university for global visibility,” he said.
He called for increased investment in digital infrastructure, regular training for staff, and stronger partnerships with industry and international institutions.
Ohuabunwa added that progress would require a joint effort from stakeholders within and outside the university system.
In his remark, UNIPORT’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, said that digital transformation was key to institutional growth and sustainability.
He said that UNIPORT has already begun taking practical steps to digitalise its academic and administrative processes.
