A 20-year-old University of Lagos student on Monday maintained in court that her lecturer, Dr. Samuel Obinna Ojogbo, raped her in his office on campus.
Testifying in the trial at the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja, the student told Justice Oyindamola Ogala that “the defendant pinned me down and raped me on that day.”
The Lagos State Government charged Ojogbo, 53, with rape and sexual assault over an incident allegedly occurring on August 22, 2025, within UNILAG. Prosecution counsel Ademola Azeez said the acts violated Sections 260 and 263(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Ojogbo pleaded not guilty.
During cross-examination, defence counsel Bidemi Ademola-Bello, SAN, questioned the student on her statements to police and her clothing on the day of the incident. She confirmed making statements at Bariga Police Station on August 27 and 28, and at the Gender Unit on September 2, which were admitted as evidence.
The student said she could not identify a photo of the alleged crime scene presented by the defence, and the judge ruled it inadmissible without another witness to speak to it.
She also testified that a doctor at the university medical centre conducted a swab test and prescribed medication after she reported the incident. She denied suggestions from the defence that she had washed clothing to destroy evidence.
The case was adjourned to May 25 for continuation.
