UNIC, MAIN train journalists in South East on SDGs

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and Media Awareness and Information for All Network (MAIN) have commenced training of journalists in South Eastern Nigeria on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 2-day training which started on 24 May 2022, was the sixth to be held under the project by UNIC and MAIN.

In March, the training workshop was flagged off in Maiduguri (North-East) by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, and was subsequently held in Kano (North-West); Abuja (North-Central); Uyo (South-South); and Lagos (South-West).

speaking at the Enugu training, a Professor of Mass Communication and former Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, Enugu State University, Prof. Sunny Udeze, identified key social, economic and environmental issues in Enugu being drug abuse, insecurity, poverty, unemployment, inflation, solid waste management, erosion, urban slums, among others.

He charged the participants to always hold government accountable in their reportage by digging deeper and following up on the impact of those challenges on the people and the society.
