A University of Benin part-time political science student was shot dead inside his car at the Ugbowo campus main gate on Sunday, just hours after sitting his semester exams.
A video circulating online appears to show the moment of the killing, though Tribune Online could not independently verify the claim that it occurred immediately after his exam.
The victim, yet to be identified, was targeted while still in his vehicle at the busy gate, turning what should have been a post-exam moment into a scene of chaos.
UNIBEN management said the incident did not involve any student or staff member on campus, attributing it to suspected cult activity outside the university grounds.
The school expressed regret over the death and urged the university community to remain calm, vigilant, and continue academic activities without panic.
As of Sunday night, the Edo State Police Command had not released an official statement confirming the killing or providing details on investigations.
